Court's Curve

My family, who lives a little over an hour from Oakland was at a game this weekend. They decided to talk trash to me via Facebook…guess the series didn’t work out to well for them.

On Friday Volquez pitched seven innings. During these seven innings he threw his 1,000th strike against cry baby Lawrie. Gordon and Morales homered in this game. Morales has hit nine homers already this season, last year he hit eight home runs in 98 games. Cain also played a significant role in this game and had a huge two out hit in the third that led to three runs. The Royals were lucky and scored two runs off of one of the many A’s errors they have had this season and won the game 5-2.

On Saturday Chris Young threw six strong innings and only gave up four hits and just one earned run. During the sixth inning the Royals executed a double steal which may have won them the game. Cain stole third and Hosmer stole second then Morales dropped a soft liner into right field for a two run single that gave the Royals a 3-2 lead. The A’s runs came off of two Royals errors. Wade Davis isn’t considered human to some people. In the eighth inning he walked his first two batters, then he ran the count to 3-0 to Vogt before coming back to strike him out. Davis then got out Zobrist to hit into a 1-6-3 double play. The Royals won 3-2.

On Sunday the Royals looked like they were going not going to accomplish the sweep. The A’s scored twice in the third off of Guthrie but the Royals came through in the sixth. The A’s had two big errors off of throwing miscues and drove in runs. The A’s finished the game with two errors and lead the major league with 75 errors so far this season. Salvador Perez hit a bomb and gave the Royals a 5-2 lead. This also let the injured Cain jog around the bases and not put too much strain on his hamstring. That was Salvy’s 500th career hit and is still looking for the ball. The Royals swept the A’s with a 5-3 victory and my family is mad at me. Oh well.

Today starts a three game series in Houston. I think the Royals will take two out of three and should come back to KC 7.5 games ahead. They open a series on Thursday against the Twins and can hopefully pull ahead of the division even more.
